Study debates empowering researcher­s in academic bodies

MUSCAT: The meeting of State Council Bureau held on Monday discussed the study of ‘Empowering researcher­s in academic and research institutio­ns and linking them to industrial and commercial institutio­ns”.

The tenth Bureau meeting was chaired by Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri and held in the presence of Bureau members and the Secretary General of the Council.

The meeting hosted Dr Abdullah Mubarak Salim al Shanfari, Head of the Committee of Education and Research and Dr Rashid Abdullah Masoud al Yahyai, Rapporteur of the Committee for deliberati­on on the study.

The study aims to monitor the reality of researcher­s in academic and research institutio­ns, review legislatio­ns governing research and access legislatio­n and the experience­s of some of the leading countries in this field, as well as take a stand on the challenges and the developmen­t of proposals to overcome them. During the discussed the meeting, report of the Bureau the Special Committee to report of the review the annual State Financial and Administra­tive Control Authority for the fiscal year 2015.

The Bureau also discussed the draft laws approved by the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) and discussed a proposal to distribute the laws issued before the issuance of the statutes of the State within the Council’s jurisdicti­on.

The Bureau was briefed on the Council of Ministers’ response to the studies submitted by the State Council on “Civil society organisati­ons from the legislativ­e and supervisor­y perspectiv­e” and “The mechanism for developing the role of Omani women’s associatio­ns”.

It also noted the report of the General Secretaria­t on the role of the Traffic Law in curtailing accidents and the preservati­on of life and property and the accompanyi­ng exhibition, as well as observed a graphic presentati­on on the “philosophy of education in the Sultanate.” The meeting also fixed the date and agenda for the 10th and 11th regular meetings of the second annual session of the sixth term.
