Over 81,000 benefit from social security in 2016

MUSCAT: The number of cases benefiting from social security in the Sultanate reached 81,942 cases by the end of 2016, according to the Social Security Bulletin issued by the National Center for Statistics and Informatio­n (NCSI).

Total disburseme­nts to social security beneficiar­ies amounted to RO 119,129,106. Statistics indicated that the year 2016 saw a decline in the number of social security cases by 3.2 per cent over the previous year.

The percentage of divorced women was 14.3 per cent of the beneficiar­ies of social security, with 11,744 cases paid RO12,684,245.

The percentage of widows benefiting from social security amounted to 7.5 per cent to reach 6,165 cases, with a decrease of 447 cases compared to the previous year and paid RO 10,080,785.

The Governorat­e of North Al Batinah accounted for about a quarter of the cases benefiting from the social security (25.5 per cent), with 20,915 cases followed by Governorat­e of South Al Sharqiyah with 9,178 cases, than Governorat­e of South Al Batinah with 8,842 cases, Governorat­e of Al Dakhiliyah 8,709, Governorat­e of North Al Sharqiyah 7,954 cases, Governorat­e of Muscat 7,865 cases, Governorat­e of Al Dhahirah 6,148 cases, Governorat­e of Dhofar 5,624 cases, Governorat­e of Al Buraimi 3,404 cases, Governorat­e of Al Wusta 1,835 cases, Governorat­e of Musandam 1,338 cases and outside the Sultanate with 148 cases. — ONA
