Shopping frenzy grips Sultanate

To capitalise on demand, retailers have promotions across categories

- SAMUEL KUTTY MUSCAT, JUNE 20

As Eid al Fitr is drawing to a close, shoppers are making a beeline to the city’s shopping malls and other traditional markets. It is festive mood everywhere.

While the mode of shopping differs depending on age and gender, the crowd starts budging especially after the Taraweeh prayer and continues till late in the night.

Most Omanis residing in Muscat began their shopping soon after the announcement of the holidays so that they could go to their hometowns in time to celebrate Eid with their kith and kin.

Eid holidays are set June 24 and end on 29.

However, work will July 2.

To capitalise on consumers’ increased consumption during the festival season, most retailers in the city have their own promotions and deals across categories such as fashion clothing, shoes and handbags, consumer electronics, to start on resume on home appliances and many more.

“Buyers are showing a keen interest in shopping and there is good business as well,” said Ananth A V, Director, Lulu Group.

Ananth expects 10 per cent more sales this year thanks to the unique deals and discounts announced by the group.

“The weather is still hot outside, so malls will be popular destinations for people,” he said.

It is common for many families to change furniture and appliances in their homes during the festive period.
