Canada inflation at 1.3 per cent in May
OTTAWA: Canadians paid 1.3 per cent more for goods and services in May than a year ago, as gasoline prices rose more slowly and falling food costs nearbottomed out, statistics showed Friday.
The figures compared with a 1.6 per cent uptick in prices in April.
Prices were up in six of eight categories charted by Statistics Canada, with the shelter and transportation indexes contributing most to the yearon-year rise in the Consumer Price Index.
The cost of buying a home, a passenger vehicle, fresh vegetables and restaurant meals were all up in May. Airfares also cost more, while video equipment prices fell, the government agency said. — AFP
