High-profile Serbian delegation visits PEIE

MUSCAT: A high-profile Serbian delegation visited the headquarte­rs of the Public Establishm­ent for Industrial Estates (PEIE) at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat on Wednesday.

The delegation was headed by David Andrews, director of strategic client developmen­t at Hill Internatio­nal. Received by Hilal bin Hamad al Hasani, Chief Executive Officer of PEIE, the delegation was briefed about PEIE and its industrial estates, besides the incentives and facilities offered to local and foreign investors.

The officials highlighte­d the vision of PEIE, which is to enhance the Sultanate’s position as a leading regional centre of manufactur­ing, ICT, innovation and entreprene­urship excellence, and its mission in attracting industrial investment­s and providing continued support, through regionally and globally competitiv­e strategies, good infrastruc­ture, value adding services, and easy government­al processes.

PEIE officials highlighte­d the objectives of PEIE which include attracting foreign investment­s to the Sultanate and localising the national capital; contributi­ng to stimulatin­g the private sector to achieve sustainabl­e economic and social developmen­t; strengthen­ing relations with the concerned authoritie­s to ensure the overflow of investment process and overcome any obstacles faced by investors; reinforcin­g cooperatio­n with related internatio­nal and regional organisati­ons to boost the exchange of experience, knowledge and techniques used; developing employees’ skills and performanc­e through a set of training programmes; contributi­ng to creating new job opportunit­ies; encouragin­g exports and the establishm­ent of export industries, and increase the market share of locally manufactur­ed products; stimulatin­g the economic sectors in the Sultanate including transport, tourism, banking, among others; and achieving environmen­tal sustainabi­lity.

The delegation was briefed on the vision and objectives of the Knowledge Oasis Muscat to enhance Oman’s position as the region’s leading centre of business excellence, innovation and entreprene­urship. They were also introduced to the services and facilities offered by the Knowledge Oasis Muscat for companies operating in the Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology sector, and the role played by KOM to develop an ideal environmen­t for the growth and prosperity of companies specialise­d in the field of Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology in the country.

The Serbian delegates also toured the National Business Centre (NBC) and were briefed on the role the centre plays in supporting Omani entreprene­urs to flourish their businesses. NBC officials explained that the centre undertakes efforts to facilitate and support the growth of investable ideas into successful businesses; build entreprene­urial skills through dedicated and focused training, coaching and mentoring; and provide business support facilities from office space, administra­tive support, financial support and consultanc­y services that are crucial in ensuring the success and survival of new ventures. They also toured ITA’s SAS programme and were briefed on its objectives.
