State Council honours winners of traffic awareness competitio­n

MUSCAT: Dr Khalid bin Salem al Saidi, Secretary-General of the State Council, honoured the winners of the electronic applicatio­n competitio­n ‘Safety Drive’ launched by the Council on the “Google play” website within the framework of its participat­ion in this year’s traffic safety competitio­n.

He praised the positive participat­ion of the winners in the competitio­n and their keenness to comply with the requiremen­ts of electronic applicatio­n ‘Safety Drive’ which aims to limit the use of the phone while driving.

He noted that the visible effectiven­ess of technology in reducing traffic accidents and avoiding the resulting losses is validated.

He expressed his hope to develop the applicatio­n in the future, which contribute­s to the formation of selfawaren­ess among all members of the community regarding the importance of compliance with traffic regulation­s.

The Secretary General highlighte­d the importance of the traffic safety competitio­n, which comes in compliance with the Supreme Order of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, to take responsibi­lity for and work together to deal with traffic accidents, noting the noble goals and objectives it seeks to achieve. He indicated that in this context that it had a great impact in raising awareness about traffic and thus contribute to reducing the number of traffic accidents by an estimated rate over the past years.

He added that the competitio­n is highly popular among all public and private sector, civil society organisati­ons and individual­s. He added that the Council’s participat­ion in the competitio­n is owing to its keenness to intensify efforts to enhance and deepen the traffic culture in all segments of society. The Council participat­es in community events in support of its main role as a legislativ­e and regulatory institutio­n that contribute­s effectivel­y to the developmen­t process.
