Omani SME to offer e-commerce

- KABEER YOUSUF MUSCAT, JULY 24

Capitalising on the massive attention that the nation is paying on turning the traditional trade into e-commerce, an ambitious SME business is aiming at providing an all-encompassing digital platform for complete trade solutions virtually.

Titled ‘Kulshai’ which means ‘Everything’ in Arabic, will be a one-stop solution for literally all products and services as more than 7,700 local and international suppliers have already confirmed to be a part of the online platform and they will be offering more than 75,000 products in 1,900 broad categories.

“From August on, Oman’s e-commerce scenario will find a newer address with Kulshai which literally means ‘everything’ which is all set to revolutionise e-commerce by reducing the need of middlemen to facilitate all trade services online”, Khalfan al Busaidi, Chairman, Kulshai told the Observer in an exclusive interview.

Initiated the Public with support from Authority for SME development (PASMED), Kulshai targets to achieve more than 500,000 suppliers globally including India, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey and the like in the next one year. Al Busaidi said Tuhoor, the developers of the web site has incorporated all the nitty gritties of online trade and no aspect will be left unattended.

“We are giving the idea its final touches and fine-tuning so that no areas of online trade will be left unattended. Whether it is a small screw from Germany or the parts of Boeing aircraft or about securing minerals from Oman’s far-flung places, elaborate arrangements are in place to get them online”, Khalfan added.

The promoters feel that common questions like how can I get my son study martial arts or my child get trained in reciting holy Quran or how can one have some of the groceries delivered at his or her doorstep will be stories of the past as the SME online portal will have all answers at one’s fingertips.

Khalfan, who has had nearly thirty years’ experience in the aviation sector and in manpower and natural stones supply trade, feels this online trade portal would prove to be Oman’s answer to all global trade queries for it has separate avenues for both local and international product ranges.

“I’m pretty sure that Kulshai will offer a complete solution for the business communities across the world and give a new agility to the citizens who want to own their own SME business.”
