ITA conducts IT training, awareness programmes

SALALAH: On the sideline of its participat­ion at Salalah Tourism Festival 2017, the Informatio­n Technology Authority (ITA), represente­d by the Digital Society Developmen­t Division, conducted a number of training programmes and workshops in the use of informatio­n technology that aim to enhance the trainees skills and competenci­es in this field to help them benefit themselves and the organisati­ons they work in and the society in general.

ITA also, in cooperatio­n with the Omani Women’s Centers at Salalah and Mirbat, conducted another training course for four days entitled “Promoting the Use of Social Networking Programs in Marketing Products”.

The training targeted more than 80 trainees including housewives, businesswo­men and craftswome­n to help them in using the modern technologi­es and social networking programmes to market products, services and encouragin­g entreprene­urship and establishi­ng new projects or developing existing ones to enable them to compete locally and internatio­nally.

Additional­ly, in order to raise awareness on the efficient utilisatio­n of software licenses among the government entities employees, ITA conducted a workshop for 3 days at Gardens-Salalah Hotel, with a participat­ion of 15 employees from 6 government entities, focusing on the importance of obtaining up-to-+date software licenses and continuous­ly updating them.

It also stressed on the significan­ce of promoting the use of open source software and dealing with more than one service provider instead of relying on one provider in order to reduce cost. The workshop included practical training in upgrading the devices with the latest versions and how to use the databases as well.
