Al Saadi to preside over Arab TT opening

Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, will on Tuesday preside over the opening ceremony of the 16th Arab Table Tennis Cup which will be hosted by the Sultanate from August 15 to 20, at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.

More than 100 players will be in action in five men and women categories each – U12, U15, U18, U21 and senior.

The championsh­ip is organised by Oman Table Tennis Committee in cooperatio­n with the Arab Table Tennis Federation. The opening ceremony will begin at 7:30 pm at the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in the presence of chairmen of Arab table tennis associatio­ns and ministry of sports officials.

The main organising committee has completed its preparatio­ns to host the tournament which will see participat­ion of 15 Arab countries.

Besides Oman, the countries participat­ing are Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Comoros, Somalia, Mauritania, Djibouti, Sudan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Palestine and Yemen.

Oman will be represente­d by Asaad al Raisi, Abdullah al Zaabi, Al Khalil al Barashdi (open category), Haitham al Mantheri, Al Jalandi al Kharousi, Nasser al Balushi (youth category), Abdulmalik al Balushi, Abdullah al Shuhi, Misha’al al Shuhi, Al Munther al Isa’yei, Mohammed al Balushi, Muaz al Balushi, Ahmed al Riyami, Omar al Ghassani and Ayman al Shahi (junior category).
