Make sure barbers use disposable tools

-

Jalal Juma, another national based in Muscat, said the barbers use such tools only when customers demand it. “On many occasions, I had to insist on disposable razors, facial masks and aprons. Only then did some agreed to use them. Others just said they don’t have them.”

Mohammed al Balushi found a number of barbers avoided offering their services to the nationals.

“I was told before I entered the shop that they don’t offer services to nationals because such issues are raised only by nationals,” said Al Balushi. He said the authorities should impose hefty fines on such shops.

The municipality carries out several campaigns after announcing new regulations.

“Violations are recorded and fines imposed in several cases. Normally the municipality tends to make barber shops understand the message and the concept behind such regulations. When such strategies don’t meet expectations, then legal action will be taken,” according to the source.

Since June 8, 2015, all the barber shops have been asked to use disposable razors, facial masks and aprons to ensure a hygienic environment.

The civic authorities have instructed all barbers in the city to adhere to new rules through a campaign, which is also conducted in all other governorates and wilayats.

This decision was based on findings that although blades are changed each time they attend to a customer, the razor remains the same for years and this can pose a threat to public health.

Communicable diseases and viral infections can be prevented by using disposables. The cost of each hygiene pack is 300-400 baisas.

However, it is up to the shops to decide which brand or from which supplier the kits have to be purchased.
