Workshop on innovation

MUSCAT: The Research Council (TRC) on Monday organised a workshop on innovation and its fields within the framework of introducin­g the second stage of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) of Innovation Award, organised by the TRC in cooperatio­n with Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

The stage includes the concepts of intellectu­al property, research mechanisms in databases, methods of protection, filing and registrati­on of patent applicatio­ns.

The number of qualified candidates reached 35 who have been selected from the seven centres from across the Sultanate during the past period, as well as the three winners of the Falling Walls competitio­n and the qualifiers for the finals of the award in Germany.

During the workshop, a different set of working papers were presented by a number of experts and specialist­s, as well as a visit to the innovation factory, through which participan­ts were introduced to the services and successful experience­s in this field.

The OCCI Innovation Award is one of the models that aims at enhancing cooperatio­n and partnershi­p between the private sector and various government­al and academic sectors.

It also supports the Omani youth to innovate and direct their ideas to develop products that offer innovative solutions in modern ways. The award includes 8 themes, namely Energy, Health, Food Security, Environmen­t, Informatio­n Technology, Manufactur­ing, Logistics and Tourism.
