MoT, Ooredoo to train and enhance skills of women

- BUSINESS REPORTER MUSCAT, AUG 21

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) hosted a ‘Springboard’ programme workshop that was organised by Ooredoo Oman in collaboration with the British Council as part of a MoU signed between the Ministry and Ooredoo. The MoU aims to reinforce the partnership between the private and public sectors’ human resources, and its prime goal is to further train and enhance the skills of women working in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Raid bin Mohammed Dawoud, Director-General of Government Relations and Trade Affairs at Ooredoo Oman said, “We are pleased to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism which has provided us with a multi-purpose room to host our workshops and interviews. We would like to thank the ministry for providing us with this opportunity. Through this programme, we hope to empower women throughout the Sultanate and help them become successful entrepreneurs, as well as employees.”

Hussain bin Abdullah al Hamad, Director of Resource Development Department in MoT elucidated, “The ministry is keen on empowering women and enhancing their skill-set, and our collaboration with Ooredoo is the perfect opportunity for us to provide training for women in the tourism and hospitality sector. As per recent statistics, women working in the tourism sector account for 26 per cent of the entire population, and we hope the percentage goes up in the next few years.” Through the ‘Springboard’ programme, Ooredoo aspires to help Omani women gain training, and acquire the necessary skills to work on projects of national relevance and repute. The programme is a great opportunity for Omani women, and will help them succeed in their respective fields of work.

The programme includes four workshops that are held at intervals, in order to give the participating women sufficient time to apply the concepts that they have learnt. During the course of the programme each of the participants is assigned a project in the fields of tourism, culture, arts, sports or economy that supports the community. By the end of the programme, a graduation ceremony is also held to felicitate each participant.
