Higher education hosts training for teachers

A training programme titled ‘Profession­al Developmen­t for Omani Non-Educationa­l Academics’ was held at the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) recently.

The ministry’s representa­tive in the Directorat­e-General of Colleges of Applied Sciences conducted the course.

The week-long training saw 22 Omani men and women noneducati­onal academics employed in Suhar, Sur, Salalah, Ibri, Nizwa Colleges of Applied Sciences, besides academics from Rustaq College of Education.

It was conducted by experts from Colleges of Applied Sciences, including Fatima al Saadi, Dr Ahmed al Badri, Dr Humood al Shukri, and Dr Rahma al Kharusi from Rustaq College of Education and Dr Jamal al Dhuhli from Nizwa College.

The course focused on learning and teaching philosophy, learning theories and academic teaching. Topics such as learning patterns, miniature teaching skills, teaching technologi­es in lectures, examinatio­n and evaluation principles, besides “Google classroom” were discussed.

It shed light on the profession­al practices of managing the educationa­l process, choosing the best teaching tools and creatively applying them in classes.

Participan­ts found the programme very useful. Fareeda al Manji, Assistant Lecturer in French language from Rustaq College of Education, a participan­t, said: “This experience will benefit me in my career. I had a chance to learn a lot.”

Khulood al Balushi, Assistant Lecturer in Engineerin­g at the College of Applied Sciences, Suhar, said: “I got the best out of the programme. Every single word made a great impact on my profession­al personalit­y and academic experience­s.”

The course concluded with a short motivation­al speech by the General Director of Directorat­e-General of Colleges of Applied Sciences, Dr Abdullah al Shibli.
