MUSCAT: Cementing its role as the Sultanate’s leading destination for international athletic events, Jebel Sifah is bringing back the mega-popular XDubai Spartan Race on November 24 following |the stunning success of last year’s inaugural edition.

Open to adventure seekers, the event will once again put competitors against a series of daunting and adrenalinepumping obstacles throughout what has quickly become the world’s fastest growing sport.

Set to attract athletes with different capabilities from across the region, the one-of-a-kind race confirms the destination’s growing status as the venue of choice for the Sultanate’s biggest sporting events.

This year’s Spartan Race is expected to record a larger number of spectators and competitors throughout the event. Last year’s edition, the first of its kind in the Sultanate and despite featuring only one course each for adults and children attracted an attendance of more than 4,000 to Jebel Sifah.

With two adult courses and a course for children, the number of participants is set to surge to over 5,000 participants including 1,000 young Spartan competitors.

The event will feature the Spartan Sprint, a 5+km race with more than 20 thrilling obstacles that represent a perfect introduction to the Spartan lifestyle for all first timers; and new for this year, the Spartan Super, where racers that have completed their Spartan Sprint or racers that want to test their self against a tougher race, will be able to do so using their grit and determination in more than 12+km with over 25 obstacles, pushing all comers to their limits. Additionally, young Spartans Kids will have their specially designed course and catering to children aged between 4-14 years old.

Our dedication to enriching the lives of our residents and visitors through sports-related activities directly inspired our tie-up with Spartan, reuniting the region’s most successful race with the impeccable venue we provide. This approach has guided us from the outset, enabling us to bring experts such as Troon International to manage our 9-Hole Harradine Golf Course, which is scheduled to officially open in October this year, among other partnerships that have exceeded the expectations of our residents.”

The race is open to disabled athletes and featured two finishers with special needs in the recently-held Bahrain event. Jebel Sifah is looking forward to welcoming special needs participants to this year’s edition of the race. Additionally, the Spartan Race is recognised as a leading team building exercise, offering companies and other units a perfect opportunity to strengthen their teamwork. To encourage greater participation, special discounted corporate rates will be offered to companies signing up more than 10+ employees.

Omid Hamed, Managing Director of Spartan Arabia, said, “Given the immense success which Oman’s first Spartan Race enjoyed last year, it was only natural that we join hands with Jebel Sifah once again to reunite this highly popular event with a general public that has truly embraced its challenge. We look forward to welcoming newcomers and experienced athletes alike to this global phenomenon. On behalf of our team, I would like to thank our sponsors Jebel Sifah, the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Sports Affairs, Chad United and Sifawy Boutique Hotel for all their support.”
