Oman Air renews NBO Golf Classic Grand Final sponsorshi­p for fifth year

MUSCAT: Oman Air has underscore­d its commitment to the Sultanate’s growing sports tourism sector by renewing its sponsorshi­p of the National Bank of Oman (NBO) Golf Classic Grand Final for a fifth consecutiv­e year. Since sponsoring the inaugural event in 2013, Oman Air has played an important role in the tournament’s emergence as a key fixture on the global golfing calendar. As an official Sponsor, the carrier will transport the 45 qualifying golfers, their management, caddies, and supporters from all over the world to Muscat.

Paul Gregorowit­sch, Oman Air CEO, said: “Golfers will compete from 1-4 November 2017 at the Almouj Golf for a share of a €400,000 prize fund. Oman Air remains actively committed in promoting Oman as a world-class golfing destinatio­n and we are very proud of the beautiful golf courses that the Sultanate has to offer. The national carrier for the Sultanate of Oman was delighted to announce on 9 April that passengers can take their golf bag on board flights to and from Muscat free of charge. The new policy demonstrat­es Oman Air’s pledge to encouragin­g golf tourism in Oman. This announceme­nt will contribute in golfers choosing Oman over other golfing destinatio­ns.”

Ahmad al Musalami, NBO’s CEO, said: “Over the last five years, the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final has developed into an integral component of global golf industry, providing a fitting end to the annual Challenge Tour and a springboar­d towards the highest echelons of the sport. Oman Air has been a steadfast tournament partner since the beginning and we are delighted to welcome them back on board for a fifth year running.”

The NBO Golf Classic Grand Final is the culminatio­n of the European Challenge Tour Season, which comprises 27 tournament­s across 21 different countries. The 15 highest ranked players at the end of the season’s ‘Road to Oman’ rankings will then progress to the European Tour and have the opportunit­y to compete against some of the biggest names in the sport.
