Carry Oman hopes at Asian Indoor Games

MUSCAT: Oman squad left on Wednesday for participat­ion in the 5th Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts hosted by the Turkmenist­an capital city of Ashghabad from September 17 to 2.

Oman, under the supervisio­n of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), will take part in athletics and tennis.

Top participan­ts from Oman include Barakat al Harthy in 60 metres sprint and Fatma al Nabhani in tennis.

Fatma will take part in women’s singles and doubles categories.

Ahmed al Saidi will take part in 400 metres race, while Maryam al Balushi and Sara al Balushi will compete in tennis events. Maryam will compete in the singles and Sara will pair with Fatma for the doubles category.

Around 5,000 athletes from 69 nations will compete in 21 sports distribute­d over 351 various discipline­s at the 5th Asian Indoor Games which will begin on September 16.

The Sultanate is represente­d by a delegation consisting of Khalid bin Ali al Aadi, OOC Treasurer, as head of delegation; Kazim bin Khan al Balushi, as chief de mission; Eshaq bin Ahmed al Balushi as administra­tor; and Khalid bin Mohammed al Wahaibi as media member. The two participat­ing teams are looking forward to achieving impressive results and bagging top medals.

Supporting committees of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) will hold their meetings at the sidelines of the 5th Asian Indoor Games on September 18.

Taha bin Sulaiman al Khishry, Secretary-General of OOC and Member of OCA’s Sports Committee, will be present at the Games and attend the committee’s meeting. Mansoor bin Sultan al Tooqi and Saadah bint Salim al Ismailiyah, OOC Board member and member of OCA’s Women’s Sport Committee, will also attend the meetings.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, OOC Chairman; and Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, OOC Secretary-General, will participat­e in the OCA’S General Assembly which will be held on September 20.
