Call for efforts to prevent medication-related errors

MUSCAT: The Regional World Health Organizati­on (WHO) on Monday concluded activities of the Third Global Patient Safety Challenge for Eastern Mediterran­ean Region at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).

The event included signing the final act of the 3rd challenge “Medication without Harm” by the WHO member states.

The final act stipulated the commitment and support of the WHO’s member states to the strategic plan set up by the WHO and seeking to reduce damages caused by unsafe use of medicines by 50 per cent during the five next year.

The health minister signed the final act that asserts the Sultanate’s commitment to strengthen­ing the health systems to reduce drug errors.

The challenge, which launched by the Sultanate represente­d by the Ministry of Health and SQU in collaborat­ion with the WHO, witnessed a large participat­ion from the WHO Eastern Mediterran­ean member states, including the Sultanate, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Syria, Somali, Tunisia, Yemen, Sudan, Djibouti, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan and Afghanista­n.

The two-day event included an exhibition of health institutio­ns in the Sultanate regarding the safe use of medicines. DELHI: The Sultanate’s girl guides are participat­ing in the 36th World Guides Conference hosted by India and organised by the World Associatio­n of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) from September 18th to 23rd.

The participat­ion of the Scouts and Guides of Oman in this conference comes in the interest of being in the various internatio­nal guidance events and participat­ing actively in making decisions that are of interest to the Girl Guides Movement and to keep up with the latest developmen­ts in the field of guides in the coming period.

Badriya al Jabriya, Head of the Sultanate’s delegation to the conference, said that the Sultanate will present during the conference its experience about “Survival Session for Girl Guides” which came within the framework of the Directorat­e General of Scouts and guides to young people and young women, where the session aimed to enable girl guides to upgrade their skills and channellin­g their energies to make maximum use of them in the field of service and developmen­t of the society.

She explained that the Sultanate’s delegation will submit a presentati­on on its experience in the field of transforma­tion leadership through an integrated presentati­on of the Future Leaders project adopted by the Directorat­e General of Scouts and Girl Guides to train a number of the Sultanate’s leaders, adding that the training session will explain the importance of working with young girls and empowering them in the transforma­tion leadership into the leadership of work groups and management of guidance work.

The conference will also be attended by Mariam bint Abdullah al Hadhriya, Head of the Guidance Department of the Directorat­e General of Scouts and Girl Guides, as a member of the Arab Regional Committee for Girl Guides. — ONA
