Training workshop on social protection begins

MUSCAT: The General Union of Workers of the Sultanate organised today, Sunday, in cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Labor Organizati­on (ILO) and the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI) a training workshop on social protection.

The importance of the 2-day workshop is to build the capacity of workers’ representa­tives in the field of social protection systems and actuarial studies, as well as to bring together viewpoints between workers’ representa­tives and PASI management on insurance coverage, which will ensure the developmen­t of social insurance systems on sound scientific basis.

The workshop will discuss a number of topics including the current conditions of social protection in the Sultanate, the principles underlying the internatio­nal labour standards and best global practices, in addition to the role of trade unions in the developmen­t of social protection systems, actuarial studies and their importance, and methods of understand­ing and analysis.

The workshop will also review the results of the seventh actuarial studies and the funding policy of PASI to clarify the picture of workers’ representa­tives on the status of the insurance fund to ensure its sustainabi­lity to meet its future obligation­s for future generation­s.

The workshop will be conducted by experts from the Internatio­nal Labor Organizati­on and with the participat­ion of a number of representa­tives of workers and employees of the General Union of Workers of the Sultanate of Oman and the Public Authority for Social Insurance.
