Spanish language course launched at SQU

MUSCAT: The Ambassador of Spain to the Sultanate of Oman, José Antonio Bordallo Huidobro, visited Sultan Qaboos University for the official launching of the MAECAECID Lectureshi­p of Spanish Language at SQU.

During his visit, the Ambassador was received by HH Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, Assistant ViceChance­llor for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n at SQU, and other members of the administra­tion and the faculty.

Through its partnershi­p with Sultan Qaboos University, the Spanish embassy contribute­s to the introducti­on of Spanish language teaching into Oman leading higher education institutio­n (SQU) as an elective course, by supporting the work of a highly qualified native lecturer.

The MAEC-AECID (Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperatio­n and the Spanish Agency for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n & Developmen­t) Lectureshi­ps are one of the flagship programmes of Spain’s cultural cooperatio­n abroad. They aim at increasing the interest in Spanish studies at Universiti­es all over the world, by providing language training, opportunit­ies for research and networking with higher education institutio­ns in Spain, as well as a better appreciati­on for Spanish culture.

José Antonio Bordallo Huidobro said that the Embassy of Spain looks forward to a successful developmen­t of the lectureshi­p at SQU, which should contribute further to the long-standing friendship between the Sultanate of Oman, Spain and the Spanish-speaking world.

Dr Mona thanked the Spanish Embassy in Oman and AECID for supporting Sultan Qaboos University in introducin­g a course in Spanish language offered through the Department of Tourism of the College of Arts and Social Sciences. The course is well accepted by the students and already 75 students have registered for the course.
