The National Youth Commission (NYC) has chalked out various development programmes that seek to empower and enable young Omani men and women to play active roles in nation-building.

Five-year development programmes have been devised, and young boys and girls identified for the purpose.

“We are identifying young Omani men and women to benefit from the national youth empowerment programmes,” said Salim al Mufadhali, Director of Activities and Initiatives Department at NYC.

Programmes include skills development, citizenship and belongingness, youth partnership, economic empowerment and youth sectoral development.

They are further divided into a number of sub-sections. They cover healthy lifestyles, industrial insights, safety, abiding by rules and regulations of day-to-day life, encouraging the habit of reading, creating and nourishing a sense of culture, and e-gate initiatives.

“Focus will be on economic empowerment, including entrepreneurship and small and medium scale projects, and healthcare development, besides national belongingness programmes,” he said.

The national youth empowerment programme has made efforts to shift attention to youth legislation, laws and regulations, capacity-building and volunteering.

“Youth empowerment is not complete if we don’t pay attention to youth participation in nation-building and upholding the national interests both at the local and international arena.”

Local youngsters will be feted at the National Youth Day celebrations in Dhofar on October 26 for their achievements at the national, regional or international level.
