Students’ council polls held at Rustaq College

Elections to the Students Advisory Council at Rustaq College of Education was held at Al Yaariba Hall on Wednesday. A total of 12 candidates were in the fray.

The electronic voting, which began at 9 am, went on until 4 pm.

It was held under the supervisio­n of college dean Dr Humood al Wardi and Assistant for Supporting Academic Affairs and head of Students Advisory Council Elections Committee Dr Anwar al Shiyadi, besides members of the committee.

Preparatio­ns for elections began at the start of the current semester.

A number of fingerprin­t devices, screens displaying names and photos of candidates, and voting forms had been made available prior to the voting day.

The election saw a significan­t turnout from both male and female students. The reached 1,000.

Votes were cast for the posts of president, vice-president and three heads of different subcommitt­ees in the council.

Tasks of the council members will be decided as per the organisati­onal guide for Students Advisory Council issued by the ministeria­l degree 2014/7.

Sara Harith al Abri, a candidate, said she participat­ed in the election because she believes it helps in the developmen­t of the university environmen­t through initiative­s that motivates students.

“We will try our best to continue with what our previous members started and activate the role of the council.” Another candidate Saleema al Salti, said: “Students Advisory Council is important in students’ academic life. This year, I decided to go through the experiment myself.” number of voters
