HIS MAJESTY GIVES AUDIENCE TO ZARIF

MANAH: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos gave an audience at Hisn Al Shomoukh on Monday evening to Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The audience reviewed aspects of the existing cooperation between the Sultanate and the Islamic Republic of Iran in various spheres to serve the joint interests of the Omani and Iranian friendly peoples, in addition to discussing a number of matters in light of the current regional and international developments.

The audience was attended by Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, and the delegation accompanying the guest.

Earlier, Zarif hailed the policy being adopted by the Sultanate under the wise leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, as well as His Majesty’s constructive role in the region, which faces several challenges.

In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Zarif affirmed that both countries are bound by good relations.

He added that they endeavour to expand these relations in different fields particularly in economy, energy and transit fields.

Zarif pointed out that his visit comes within the framework of the continuous consultation with the Sultanate on wide range of issues of concern to the region.

Regarding the transport of Iranian gas to India through the Sultanate, he pointed out that the trilateral meetings held recently in New York with the Minster Responsible for Foreign Affairs and the Indian External Affairs Minister discussed cooperation in energy and gas fields.

They also discussed the possibility of tripartite cooperation in gas fields.

The Iranian minister hoped that cooperation among these countries would be maintained.
