Sembcorp Salalah celebrates health and safety milestone

- BUSINESS REPORTER SALALAH, OCT 5

Sembcorp Salalah Power and Water Company (SSPWC) celebrated the achievement of three million safe manhours on October 1 at its plant in Taqah. The staff members of the SSPWC marked the occasion in presence of Qais al Zakwani, Executive Director and Member of the Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER). The event also saw attendance from dignitaries, Sembcorp stakeholders and contractor. Three million safe man hours is a major milestone, which means that the company has been working free of any labour accidents for almost 6 years, since it began operations in Dhofar in 2012.

Sembcorp Salalah Power and Water is the largest and most efficient power and water plant in the Governorate of Dhofar. Currently it supplies about 70 per cent of the regions power needs, and is the sole supplier of desalinated water for Raysut, Salalah, Taqah and Mirbat.

Alex Miquel, Sembcorp Salalah CEO hailed the occasion and said, “Achieving 3 million safe man hours is an important milestone for our company. It highlights our commitment to develop a safe working environment for our staff and contractors and our commitment to preserving the environment. Our proven and successful health and safety system is a key element in our company’s sustainability policy, and allows us to look forward to many years of contributing to the progress and development of the Sultanate of Oman.”
