Sultanate at Unesco session

PARIS: The Sultanate, represente­d by its Permanent Representa­tive Office at the United Nations Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organizati­on (Unesco), is participat­ing in the 202 Session of the Executive Board of the Unesco, as a member of the board, currently being held at the Unesco, headquarte­rs in Paris until October 18.

The agenda of this session includes discussion on topics related to Unesco’s objectives and priorities, issues relating to the budget and programmes of the Organizati­on, the financial situation, human resources issues, the discussion of strategic results reports and other important issues on the agenda, as well as proposing a candidate for the post of Director-General for the Unesco for the coming period.

On the sidelines of the session, the meetings of the Special Committee were chaired by Ambassador Dr Samira bint Mohammed al Mousa, Permanent Representa­tive of the Sultanate to the Unesco, during which the reports of the Joint Inspection Unit (JIU), that are of interest to Unesco, were discussed and the status of implementa­tion of the recommenda­tions and procedures and working methods of the Unesco’s two governing bodies were discussed.

Sultanate had chaired the Special Committee during the 38th session of the Unesco, General Conference in 2015.

The committee considers the administra­tive matters of the Executive Board of the Unesco, including the schedule of the sessions of the board, as well as the governance, procedures and working methods of the two governing bodies of the Unesco.
