Seminar discusses yacht tourism

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communicat­ions, represente­d by the Directorat­e General of Maritime Affairs, organised on Sunday a seminar on ‘the developmen­t of maritme businesses in the Sultanate’.

The seminar aimed at discussing the challenges facing companies operating in the maritime sector and means of developing the maritime tourist facades. Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communicat­ions for Ports and Maritime Affairs, who sponsored the opening of the seminar said the seminar comes within a programme implemente­d by the ministry.

He affirmed that such seminars provide a platform for meeting with relevant stakeholde­rs to develop the maritime activities sector in the Sultanate and listen to the challenges and difficulti­es facing them.

He affirmed the importance of the developmen­t and growth of the maritime activities sector in the Sultanate, especially with the growth of tourism industry.

He pointed out that the sea compliment­s the tourism sector in the Sultanate. He stressed the need to provide tourists and residents with quality service.

The seminar discussed the challenges and difficulti­es facing companies operating in the maritime sector and means of developing the maritime tourist facades.

The seminar, which also discussed means of developing the yacht tourism sector, shed light on the opportunit­ies available for SMEs in the field of servicing the leisure yachts.

A number of directors general and specialist­s from the relevant public and private organisati­ons and tourism clubs took part in the seminar.
