Ambassador of peace, makes triumphant return home

MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Navy (RNO) ship Shabab Oman II on Monday returned home after taking part in the European sailing races during its third internatio­nal voyage on friendship and peace. The participat­ion comes in implementa­tion of the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces.

RNO organised an official celebratio­n under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsibl­e for Defence Affairs. The event started with military salute to the chief guest who inspected the front row of the guard column. When the vessel docked, the ship captain invited the chief guest and invitees to come onboard and greet the vessel crew for their efficient participat­ion in this journey.

The chief guest and invitees were briefed on the vessel, the routes it followed, the national aims behind such participat­ion and the achievemen­ts made during the journey.

Sayyid Badr and the invitees toured the exhibition held on the sidelines of the event.

The exhibition included pictures that showcased the glorious history of the Omani maritime and the role played by the vessel in promoting friendship and peace at its different destinatio­ns and stops during its last journey.

Sayyid Badr said in a statement that we celebrate the return of Shabab Oman II home after a six-month internatio­nal journey during which it visited a number of internatio­nal ports. The visit integrates His Majesty the Sultan’s Royal approach towards promoting peace among countries of the world and reviving the Omani flourishin­g maritime history.

Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis al Raisi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), in his remarks said, “We thank Allah for the safe return of Shabab Oman II vessel after a six-month journey during which it visited 14 countries.” He added that RNO is proud of operating this sailing vessel as a mobile ambassador touring seas and oceans.

Lieutenant Commander Ali bin Mohammed al Hosni, Commanding Officer of the RNOV Shabab Oman II, said: “During its six-month journey, Shabab Oman II vessel has captured a number of awards and leading position during participat­ion at the different internatio­nal maritime festivals and events.” The official reception ceremony showcases the status of the vessel as the Sultanate’s ambassador for peace and friendship.

A number of ministers, commanders of SAF, military and other security systems, as well as members of the State Council, Majlis Ash’shura, senior SAF, military and security officers, walis, ambassador­s, military attachés and other invitees attended the ceremony.
