ISM champions at CBSE Oman Cluster athletics

MUSCAT: Indian School Muscat (ISM) once again emerged overall champions at the CBSE Oman Cluster Athletic Meet 2017 on October 21.

ISM hosted the Cluster Meet on the school grounds on October 20 and 21. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Mohammad Sabir Raza Faizy, Finance Director, Board of Directors, Indian Schools, Oman. The athletic meet witnessed the attendance of N Omanakutta­n, President of the School Management Committee, Shameer PTK, Chairman, Sports Sub-Committee, members from the Indian School Muscat Management Committee, Principal Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, Saji S Nair, senior viceprinci­pal administra­tion, Sajit Kumar CBSE, observer, vice-principals, assistant vice-principals, Mukund, President, ISMA, dignitarie­s, participat­ing teams, athletes, teachers, parents and sports enthusiast­s.

Assistant Head Boy Divya Soni, ISM, welcomed the gathering and highlighte­d the facility of ISM’s astroturf field and synthetic track which would provide a first-rate preparatio­n for the upcoming nationals. Chief guest Mohammad Sabir Raza Faizy, in his speech encouraged the athletes to pursue success with determinat­ion and he declared the meet open.

The contingent­s of the participat­ing schools came forward with the school captains holding high their school flags. Ismail Khalid of ISM, a gold medallist in 4x100m relay school team in the National CBSE Athletic Meet 2016-17 administer­ed the oath. The Cluster Meet was replete with a galore of events for both boys and girls.

As many as 400 athletes from 14 Indian Schools in Oman, affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi, including hosts ISM, competed in various track and field events in three different age categories for both boys and girls.

On the second day, ISM secured the top position with 349 points. Indian School Salalah stood second with 211 points. The third position was secured by Indian School Muladha with 178 points. The fourth and fifth positions went to Indian School Darsait and Indian School Nizwa with 117 and 111 points. Indian School Muscat aced in the following categories - under-17 boys, under-19 boys and girls, under-14 boys and girls. Indian School Darsait secured the first position in under-17 girls category with 46 points. Prizes to the winning athletes were given away by in-house personages and invited dignitarie­s in the presence of a large number of students, teachers and parents. The curtains came down when the august gathering witnessed the lowering of the CBSE flag with full honours. Chief guest N Omanakutta­n handed the flag to the principal who handed over it to Hari Krishna, HoD, Physical Education for safe keeping till the next meet in 2018. Tamongna Dey, Coordinato­r, Sports, Indian School Muscat, proposed the vote of thanks.
