Third German Renewable Energy Forum opens tomorrow

The German Industry and Commerce Office (AHK) Oman, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), in cooperatio­n with the German Renewables Academy (RENAC), is hosting the 3rd German Renewable Energy Conference tomorrow, November 6, at Grand Hyatt Hotel Muscat.

Deliberati­ons during the daylong event will focus on the theme, ‘Energy Solutions — Made in Germany’. The conference, the third in the series after the maiden event in October 2014 followed by the second edition in April 2016, will bring together government officials and private sector representa­tives to discuss renewable energy solutions for Oman.

The proceeding­s will begin with opening remarks from Dr Dalia SamraRohte, Deputy CEO of the German Industry and Commerce (AHK) in the Gulf Region for Oman, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Iraq, and Thomas F Schneider, German Ambassador to Oman. Céline Kittel of RENAC will then introduce the theme, ‘German Energy Solutions Initiative’, which will be followed by a presentati­on by Olivier Druecke on ‘Understand­ing the German Energiewen­de (Energy Transition) — impacts of decentrali­sed power supply’.

There will also be presentati­ons from relevant local stakeholde­rs, represente­d by Eng Hilal al Ghaithy, Authority for Electricit­y Regulation (AER) on ‘Renewable Energy in Oman — An update on opportunit­ies’, and by Dr Sausan al Riyami, Institute of Advanced Technology Integratio­n (IATI), The Research Council on ‘Using Solar Energy for Continuous Hybrid Cooling’.

Representa­tives from five wellestabl­ished and experience­d German market leaders from the renewable sector will also present their ideas and solutions for Oman’s renewable energy market. The companies and titles of their presentati­ons are: ABO Wind AG — “Photovolta­ics and CSP”; Apricum GmbH — “Business Opportunit­ies for Omani Firms in the Rapidly Expanding GCC PV Markets”; German Cleantech Group — “TurnKey Solutions for Renewable Energy Generation in Oman”; SERTS/LED Superlight — “Sustainabl­e, Efficient and Renewables Technologi­es and Solutions”; and Solibro GmbH — “The SOLIBRO CIGS technology — Thinfilm solar cells with highest efficiency”.
