Sultanate takes part in UN anti-corruption meet

VIENNA: The Sultanate, represente­d by the State Financial and Administra­tive Audit Institutio­n (SFAAI), participat­ed in the seventh session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Vienna, Austria, which started today and continues for four days.

Shaikh Nasser bin Hilal al Ma’awali, Chairman of SFAAI, leads the Sultanate’s delegation to the conference with the participat­ion of Ambassador Dr Badr bin Mohammed al Hinai, Permanent Representa­tive of the Sultanate in Vienna.

In his speech, Shaikh Nasser bin Hilal al Ma’awali stressed the keenness of the Sultanate, like other countries of the world, to achieve the objectives of the United Nations Convention against Corruption in promoting and strengthen­ing measures aimed at preventing and combating corruption and promoting integrity, accountabi­lity and sound management of public affairs and property.

He also stressed the keenness of the Sultanate to meet the requiremen­ts of the Convention by addressing some of the legislatio­ns in order to harmonise them with the provisions of the Convention, in accordance with the reviewing of its implementa­tion of chapters III and IV of the first session, in addition to revising a number of legislatio­ns.

The conference will review a number of issues and proposals on the implementa­tion of the United Nations Convention against Corruption to come out with resolution­s and recommenda­tions that support the internatio­nal community in preventing and combating corruption.
