TEDxMuscatWomen builds bridges of communication
TEDxMuscatWomen, an independently organised event in the world-renowned TED series, successfully concluded its inaugural event in the Sultanate at the Sheraton Oman Hotel.
True to its theme ‘Building Bridges’, the conference united 300 delegates and a diverse range of dynamic speakers for a full-day of inspiring “power of women” speeches and motivational ideas worth implementing in daily life.
Arunraj Subbaraj, a TEDIndia Fellow and an organiser of TEDxMuscatWomen, said, “Hosting this event allowed us to inspire future thought leaders and build stronger, and more connected community of empowered women in Muscat. By bringing together a host of regional and international pioneering women, we were able to share a variety of powerful ideas that have changed the lives of our speakers and in turn, learn how we can each improve our daily lives and make sustainable impact within the communities we represent.”
Abeer al Mukhaini, one of the TedxMuscatWomen organisers, added, “TEDxWomen is all about sharing knowledge in an inspirational context and inviting the world to hear the exciting ideas transforming society in the region and beyond. Together with our host of creative and highly innovative speakers, we have taken a successful step towards creating a global community of future innovators, designers, thinkers, technologists, as well as environmentally and socially engaged individuals.”
Showcasing how to action life-changing concepts and overcome challenges, each of TEDxMuscatWomen’s three 90-minute sessions connected with participants through a combination of live storytelling and thought-provoking subject matter. The panel of eminent thinkers, humanitarians, philanthropists, and professionals from a multitude of disciplines included HH Sayyida Mayya Hamoud al Said, HH Sayyida Basma Fakhri al Said, HH Shaikha Noora Khalifa al Khalifa, Dalal Mohammed Darwish, Lana al Rashid, Aziza Chaouni, Kami Lamki, Nayla al Khaja, Nisreen Ahmed Jaffer, Samiha al Shibani, and Olympian Rohini Rau.
TEDWomen is held annually with affiliated and independently organised TEDxWomen events organised subsequently in more than 150 countries and 500 cities.
The conferences bring the conversation of the power of women to local communities and are live streamed around the world. TEDxWomen is also linked to the TEDx concept, which has engaged more than one billion people on the ground and online through 15,000 events since its launch in 2009.
