MUSCAT: Over the past decade, Oman has invested in infrastructure, products and services that support the exhibitions and meetings industry. With the opening of the Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre and the consolidation of the Convention Bureau in Oman, the country is proactively driving MICE tourism.

The Ministry of Tourism’s efforts have further paid off — with the establishment of MCI Middle East in Oman, which under a new strategic partner with Zahara Tours will grow Oman’s MICE space in the Middle East Market and drive the meetings industry forward in emerging markets.

With MCI’s global expertise and Zahara’s local knowledge the partnership will result in the designing of innovative programmes and products to enhance the experience of conducting meetings in Oman. The aim of the partnership is to support and become an essential part of Oman’s vision and goals that help drive strategic and economic benefits into the country, in alignment with the nation’s Vision 2040.

Ajay Bhojwani, Managing Director MCI Middle East, said, “Oman is a fresh and exciting market in our region and has the distinction of being a great business meetings destination. Currently, 8 per cent of our events are held in Oman. This joint venture will help us further consolidate our presence in the Middle East and also grow our presence and influence in the market. We are certain that our partnership will help drive more events to Oman, elevate the level of the meeting industry and generate added interest from our international clients. MCI is proud to be the MICE industry partner of Zahara Tours.”

Khalid Bin al Waleed al Zidjali, Head of Oman Convention Bureau, said: “Through Oman Convention Bureau, the Ministry is making notable endeavours to develop the MICE sector in Oman and attract global investments. The launch of MCI in Oman is a fruitful result of the enormous efforts made by the MoT. MCI is one of the most prominent companies regionally and internationally, and we are sure that it will help attract many major events into Oman.”
