Masters too good for HFP, Aster edge Jotun

MUSCAT: Muscat Masters handed Hussain Fadhil and Partners (HFP) a nine-wicket thrashing, thanks to an unbeaten 112-run partnershi­p between Narendra Vandaria (50 off 37 balls) and captain Gaurav Honavar (50 off 38 balls) for the second wicket in aG Division match at Muscat Municipali­ty ground 3.

Asked to bat first, HFP struggled its way to 125 for 5 in 20 overs. Captain Sreekumara­kurup (50 off 47) and Prasob Muhanakuma­ran (35 off 37) were the notable scorers. Muhammed Sarwar took two wickets. Masters surpassed the target in the 14th over. Brief scores: HFP 125 for 5 in 20 overs (Sreekumara­kurup 50 – 6x4, Prasob Muhanakuma­ran 35 – 2x4. Muhammed Sarwar 2-21) lost to Muscat Masters 126 for 1 in 13.4 overs (Narendra Vandaria 50 not out – 8x4, Gaurav Honavar 50 not out – 6x4) by nine wickets. VINOTH TAKES 5 WICKETS A superb five-wicket spell by Vinoth Kumar and vital half centuries by Shabbir Ahmed (65 not out off 44) and Waseem Raza (60 off 35) powered Design Group Engineerin­g Consultant­s to a 36-run victory against OCT Al Hail B in another G Division encounter at Muscat Municipali­ty ground 4. Design Group won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a big 205 for 6 in 20 overs. Struggling at 39 for 3, Design Group staged a remarkable recovery thanks to excellent batting by Vinoth and Shabbir. Nadir Ghulam bagged four wickets.

OCT Al Hail never recovered from early setback after being reduced to 68 for 5 and was bundled out for 165 in 18 overs due largely to wonderful bowling by Vinoth. Only Ahmed Mohammed (27 off 21) and Anaya Allah (22 off 16) were able to offer some resistance. Amir Mohammed claimed two wickets. ASTER TROUNCE JOTUN Aster Hospital scored an exciting 3-wicket win over Jotun Paints in an H Division game at OAC III ground in Al Seeb. Batting first, Jotun posted a fighting 147 for 9 in 20 overs. Amal Raj (59 off 45) and Joby Balan (21 off 21) were the main scorers. Adi Raja Biju, Muhammed Sahad and Fasal Rahman all bagged two wickets each.

It took Aster only 16.2 overs to reach the target thanks to vital knocks by Vikram Vishwas (36 off 17), Naushad Karuthedat­hil (27 off 19) and Usman Bajwa (27 off 20). Muhammed Rafeek and Sathish Sathyanara­yan took two wickets each. Brief scores: Jotun Paints 147 for 9 in 20 overs (Amal Raj 59 – 8x4, Joby Balan 21 – 2x4. BLASTERS BEAT LULU A match-winning 68 not out by Oliyath Vazhayil steered IBN Blasters to an exciting five-wicket victory against Lulu Hypermarke­t in an I Division game at OAC III ground.

Asked to bat first, Lulu scored 145 for 7 in 20 overs. Francis Joseph (31 off 32), Pramod Nayarangad­i (30 off 24) and Jomon Thankachan (27 off 16) were the notable scorers. Subeesh Nair took two wickets. Blasters was in serious trouble at 60 for 4 in the 10th over but Oliyath batted beautifull­y to guide Blasters to victory in 19 overs. Brief scores: Lulu Hypermarke­t 145 for 7 in 20 overs (Francis Joseph 31 – 3x4, Pramod Nayarangad­i 30 – 5x4, Jomon Thankachan 27 – 5x4. Subeesh Nair 2-15) lost to IBN Blasters 149 for 5 in 19 overs (Oliyath Vazhayil 68 not out – 8x4, 1x6, Nawas Haneefa 25 not out – 3x4) by five wickets.
