Oman bags 2 awards for best tech project in public sector

KUWAIT: The gCloud Project of Informatio­n Technology Authority (ITA) and Advanced Manpower Management System of the Ministry of Manpower won two awards at the public sector as the best technology projects in the Arab world at 17th edition of Shaikh Salim al Ali Informatic­s Award.

This was announced in the honouring ceremony, which was held at Bayan Palace on Wednesday under the patronage of Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jabir al Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait.

The ceremony was attended by Hamad bin Khamis al Aamri, Under-Secretary of Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Manpower, and Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Informatio­n Technology Authority (ITA).

In a bid e-Government, to the transform Ministry to of Manpower activated the e-services system to meet the needs of citizens, business owners, private sector employees and job seekers.

The system includes a number of channels for communicat­ion, such as the Ministry’s website, the mobile applicatio­n, and the ‘Sanad’ centres.

ITA’s gCloud serves as a shared infrastruc­ture for public entities to develop their e-services in a way that drives the e-Government transforma­tion in the Sultanate.

The infrastruc­ture includes servers, networks, data storage and applicatio­ns. The gCloud currently includes 7 government projects that saved about RO 4.2 million.

It is worth mentioning that Sheikh Salim al Ali Informatic­s Award was establishe­d in 2001, with the aim of supporting the e-Knowledge and developmen­t of human resources capabiliti­es in the IT field. — ONA
