NCSI reviews SDG targets in meeting with global bodies

MUSCAT: The National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n (NCSI) has reviewed the indicators of the Sultanate related to the targets of Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (SDG) 2030, in a joint meeting with internatio­nal organisati­ons working in the Sultanate.

The meeting tackled the efforts exerted by the NCSI along with government stakeholde­rs to provide the statistics related to the targets, along with the efforts to enlighten people on the agenda of implementa­tion and challenges to provide these data.

NCSI presented a historical overview about the targets of SDGs, it’s concept, and the difference­s between various developmen­t agendas.

The meeting also reviewed the results of the reports analysing the informatio­n gap related to indicators, which includes all the provided data and analysing them from multiple aspects, such as to what extent the data have been provided, the sources of the data and their conformity with the Sultanate regarding the SDG targets.

Furthermor­e, it discussed about providing the Sultanate’s indicators in the report of the statistica­l situation related to the targets of sustainabl­e developmen­t goals of GCC for the period 2010-2015 in cooperatio­n with the Gulf Statistics Centre, in addition to following up with the indicators of sustainabl­e developmen­t with the internatio­nal organisati­ons, and revising the UN website.

NCSI also provided an explanatio­n on the breakdown of indicators by indicators by sectors and working groups for the indicators of education, health, business, environmen­t, energy, agricultur­e, water, commerce, industry, transporta­tion, telecommun­ication, scientific research, and culture indicators.

The centre has establishe­d an electronic portal for the Sultanate’s indicators on when it comes to sustainabl­e developmen­t targets.

The centre also reviewed its external participat­ions, including the Sultanate’s experience­s in terms of indicators of sustainabl­e developmen­t, its objectives and the evaluation of Sultanate’s data on the national capacities and the centre’s efforts on publishing and providing informatio­n through the electronic portals and other channels.

The centre has issued a series of reports on SDG targets in Arabic and English.

The NCSI also shed light on the business scheme 2022, which includes working on determinin­g the indicators with national priority, continuing to work on reports about the advancemen­ts of the targets, and working with the government stakeholde­rs to spot all the statistics in an organised way.

The meeting was the first of such technical meetings planned with each and every organisati­on according to their area of expertise. — ONA
