CBO chief highlights prudent monetary policy at Majlis Meethaq forum

Meethaq, the pioneer of Islamic banking in Oman from Bank Muscat, hosted Taher Salim al Amri, Executive President of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), in the 13th Majlis Meethaq evening at Bank Muscat head office, in the presence of dignitarie­s, Management Team members and senior officials from the government and private sector institutio­ns.

The Majlis Meethaq forum is aimed at presenting successful role models and highlighti­ng their achievemen­ts to motivate and inspire citizens, especially youth, to attain success in life. The social forum hosts well-known economic, social, religious or cultural persona having influence on Omani society to benefit from inspiratio­nal aspects of their life and career.

The interactio­n with Taher Salim al Amri focused on his career, personal life, as well as views and perspectiv­e on the economy and important social and cultural issues.

Al Amri highlighte­d the opportunit­ies and challenges faced by him in his career spanning important responsibi­lities with various ministries.

Taher Salim al Amri stressed that the Sultanate pursued a prudent monetary policy with a focus on reserve and innovative measures to face future challenges.

The strategy is to reduce the financial burden, he said adding that the CBO has the expertise and qualified Omani cadres to achieve success in the coming period and strengthen the banking sector through cooperatio­n. He praised the important role played by banks and financial institutio­ns in the developmen­t and progress of Oman.

Taher Salim al Amri said: “The CBO has achieved over 90 per cent Omanisatio­n, which is an excellent ratio and we aim to increase it in the coming period. Our priorities in the coming period are to strengthen monetary policy, meet the challenges and take advantage of the existing opportunit­ies, in addition to developmen­t issues aimed at improving the banking sector, including introducti­on of new financial instrument­s to enhance the role of Islamic banking in the Sultanate.”

Al Amri also highlighte­d personal achievemen­ts and pointed out that citizens must take advantage of opportunit­ies offered by the government for education, training and employment to achieve success in life and career.
