RAINS CLAIM TWO LIVES

A family of eight was rescued after they were stuck in their vehicle. Another vehicle with two people inside as well as three more people whose vehicle was swept away by wadis were rescued.

In Izki, 12 vehicles were swept away by gushing wadi waters. Drivers were rescued later. A Pakistani driver was rescued after his truck got stuck.

In Barkat Al Mouz, three Egyptians were rescued after their vehicle was swept away by a wadi. A family of six stuck inside their vehicle were rescued in Bahla, while another family of three was rescued after it was swept away by Wadi Blad Seet.

In Daba, an Emirati family of three was rescued after their vehicle was stuck in a wadi, while a national was rescued in Al Sharqiyah.

Earlier, a man was airlifted from Daba to the Sohar Hospital.

Meanwhile, residents can breathe easy as the low pressure trough is expected to be on a “lighter mode” on Monday, said the Met Office.

The changed weather pattern is likely to settle down by Tuesday.

Muscat, which had its share of rainfall this time, starting from Saturday, recorded 19.8 mm.

Leading the list is Liwa in North Al Batinah with 111.16 mm, followed by Saiq in Al Dakhiliyah (75 mm) and Shinas in North Al Batinah (63 mm). The Met Office said the cold advection led to more condensati­on of clouds, ensuring an impressive amount of rainfall.

The sea has been rough, while the mountainou­s regions saw hailstorms especially in Musandam and Al Batinah.

In Jabal Akhdar, the public even wondered if they were experienci­ng snow.

Weather forecaster Majid al Muqbali said the “images imply that, but it is mostly hail”.Cloudy skies are expected over Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, South and North Al Sharqiyah governorat­es with chances of rain and occasional thundersho­wers associated with fresh winds and hail.

It will be partly cloudy over Al Wusta and Dhofar governorat­es with chance of isolated rains.

The lowest temperatur­e has been recorded in Jabal Shams with a high of 8 degrees Celsius and a low of 0 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperatur­e has been recorded in Salalah, Ibri, Mahout, Masirah and Fahud with a high of 27 degrees Celsius and a low of 21, 15 and 14 respective­ly.
