Fifth Europcar Open concludes at Al Mouj Golf

MUSCAT: Getting bigger with each passing year, Europcar hosted the fifth edition of the Europcar Open on December 8 at the Al Mouj Golf Course. The event saw a greater response than last year as passionate golfers from various clubs got together to conquer some challengin­g holes. The tournament climaxed in an evening of celebratio­ns, the presentati­on of the grand trophy, and a host of other prizes for numerous winners in different categories.

This year’s Europcar open featured an expanded field of over 100 golfers with many still in the waiting list to showcase their skills. Over players participat­ed on the Academy course.

Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy commenced the challenge by being the first one to tee off at 6:40 am in the morning. One of the prominent golfers playing this year was Azaan al Rumhy, who is revered as Oman’s best golfer. Gracing the occasion were Manabile Shogole, South African Ambassador and Richard Grosse, Singapore Council General, who not only consented to be the guests of honour at this prestigiou­s event, but also participat­ed in the challenge and thirty Par 3 gave away prizes to the winners.

The Europcar Open had the captains and vice-captains of the four golf clubs compete for the Interclub Challenge Trophy. Playing in the event were Sabri Mandhari and Michele Anderasen from Al Mouj Golf, Sha Sudha and Henry Huneberg from Muscat Hills, Mike Rennardson and Steve Blee from Ghala Valley and Gary Battersby and Shawn Skibinsky from PDO (Ras Al Hamra Golf Club). The first ever Interclub Challenge that was held this year had the host as the winning team and the golfers of Al Mouj proudly celebrated their win.

The winner of Division A — Men’s Winner Championsh­ip course was Kevin D’Amours, while Shailesh Pande took home the trophy for Division B— Men’s Winner Championsh­ip course. After securing the runner-up position in a previous year, this time Jameela Daud bagged the prize in the Women’s Winner — Championsh­ip course category. The Par 3 — Academy course had Norina Utot walk away with the wining prize.
