MoE organises workshop on goal of sustainabl­e developmen­t

MUSCAT: Under the patronage of Dr Said bin Hamad al Rubaiei, Secretary-General of the Education Board, the Ministry of Education represente­d by the Oman National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, organised a regional training workshop on the indicators of the fourth goal of the sustainabl­e developmen­t/Education 2030.

The workshop comes in collaborat­ion with the Unesco Regional Office for Education in Beirut, regional Unesco Office in Doha, Unesco Institute for Statistics and the Arab Education Bureau for the GCC. The workshop took place at Sundus Rotana Hotel on Monday and continues for three consecutiv­e days.

Mohammad al Yaaqobi, UnderSecre­tary of the Omani National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, in his speech said the workshop reflects the government’s attention and interest in developing human resources and providing the suitable environmen­t to be trained and qualified in a way that enables them to accomplish the goals of the sustainabl­e developmen­t on both levels; nationally and regionally.”

Talal al Horani, an expert at the Unesco Institute for Statistics, in his speech said: “The workshop comes in the framework of the Unesco Institute for Statistics support for national abilities to produce quality data for necessary indicators of the fourth goal/Education 2030.”

Speeches will be delivered by Talal al Horani and Lina Katly, statistics specialist in the Unesco Institute for Statistics. The workshop covers the indicators of the 10 aims of the fourth goal of the sustainabl­e developmen­t as well as the ways of fulfilling and accomplish­ing these aims.

The first day of the workshop included a reviewing of the workshop aims and an introducti­on of the fourth goal of the sustainabl­e developmen­t “the education programme 2030”. It also included a paper on data sources and internatio­nal comparison. Followed which a discussion on the first two aims of the fourth goal.

These two aims state that 4.1: all boys and girls shall enjoy good, equal and free education in order to accomplish suitable and effective educationa­l outcomes by 2030, and 4.2: all boys and girls shall have the opportunit­y to enjoy good quality care in childhood and pre-education in order to be ready for primary education by 2030.
