Robbers, drug peddlers arrested

MUSCAT: The Directorat­e-General for Combating Narcotics and Psychotrop­ic Substances arrested a man in connection with possessing drugs with the purpose of abusing and traffickin­g in the Wilayat of Seeb.

The police search yielded an amount of hashish which the defendant concealed in his house and vehicle. He was referred to the judiciary for completing the investigat­ion.

Smuggling: Two Arab nationals have been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Sultanate when their boat was chased and seized by a Coast Guard Police boat six nautical miles off Al Dahareez coast in Dhofar Governorat­e.

Police found 2,700 bundles of khat on the smugglers’ boat. The boat was inpounded and the defendants and drugs were handed over to the Directorat­e of Combating Narcotics and Psychotrop­ic Substances at Dhofar Governorat­e Police Command.

Robberies: The Qurayat Police Station arrested three Asian nationals on charges of fraud in the governorat­es of Muscat, Dhofar and South Al Batinah.

An official at Royal Oman Police (ROP) said that one of the defendants used to enter a money exchange and ask the employee to exchange foreign currency for him then a second defendant enters and tries to distract the clerk with other requests so that his accomplice can steal cash and the two defendants ran away in a vehicle driven by the third defendant.
