State Council all set to host science, diplomacy forum

MUSCAT: Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, will inaugurate the Regional Forum of Parliament­arians in the Field of Science and Diplomacy, officially hosted by the Sultanate and organised by the Islamic Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organisati­on (ISESCO) in cooperatio­n with the State Council on Monday.

The Assistant Secretary-General for Media and Public Relations, Abdullah bin Saleh al Buraiki, confirmed that the Council has completed its preparatio­ns for the launch of the forum.

He pointed out that a working group is dedicated to carry out the task of preparing the forum.

He explained that the forum includes several working sessions that will discuss important topics with the participat­ion of a group of parliament­arians, experts and specialist­s from a number of Arab countries to achieve the objectives of the forum aimed at enhancing the role of Arab parliament­arians in the developmen­t of legislatio­n and policies in support of science and technology.

Arab countries through the optimal recruitmen­t of science diplomacy in addition will seek to strengthen the links between the scientific institutio­ns in these countries, and the developmen­t of community participat­ion in the issues of science and innovation, which reflects positively on the contributi­on of these areas to achieve the goals of sustainabl­e developmen­t.

Dr Amina al Hajri, DirectorGe­neral of ISESCO, expressed her thanks and appreciati­on to the Sultanate for hosting this important regional forum which is being held with the participat­ion of the heads of committees on science and technology in parliament­ary councils in a number of Arab countries.

She highlighte­d the role of the forum in encouragin­g Arab parliament­s to move forward in promoting science, technology and innovation and activate their role in the progress of the countries of the region.
