Haya Water shuts down two STPs, diverts supply to Al Ansab STP

- BUSINESS REPORTER MUSCAT, DEC 24

In line with its efforts to build a modern wastewater system in the capital region, Haya Water has shut down two STPs in Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos (7500 m3/ day) and divert the wastewater to Al Anasb STP.

This step has been carried out after the completion of several major projects, including the main wastewater line project in Wilayat Bausher.

This line is 25 km long starting from Al Hamriyah roundabout to the intersection of the health centre signs in Al Ghubra. The line’s diameter ranges from 1000 mm to 2000 mm and a depth ranging from 5 metres to more than 12 metres.

The completion and operation of this main sewer pipeline has contributed to connecting the areas of Al Qurm and Madinat Al Ilam to the wastewater network which consists of 104 km wastewater pipelines and 19 lifting and pumping stations, as well as connecting the existing wastewater network in Shatti Al Qurm’s “Al Sarooj area”.

As a result, 12 lifting and pumping stations in the area were cancelled from the area and Shatti Al Qurm STP, as well, which is located in the city centre near Ministry of Housing and thus, contributed to the reduction of distortion of this important business area.

The Company has also managed to connect the wastewater network in Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos with the main sewer line in Wilayat Bausher and cancel the STP, which was a source of concern for the residents of this area.

It is worth mentioning that the main sewer line in Wilayat Bausher (eastern sector) is connected to the wastewater networks on both sides of Sultan Qaboos Street starting from Al Hamriya roundabout to Al Azaiba area.

The wastewater flows through this line into an initial sewage collection area and then transferred to the main pumping station in Al Azaiba, which then pumps the wastewater to Al Ansab STP.

The main pumping station in Al Athaiba, the first phase of which was constructed in 2010 with a capacity of 5,400 cubic meters per hour, is currently witnessing the implementation of the second phase to expand its operational capacity to 10,800 cubic meters per hour.

This station is located in the centre of Wilayat Bausher and connected to another main sewer line that was constructed under the main project (C-2) for the western sector of the main line. This line is about 19 km long starting from the borders between Wilayats Al Seeb and Bausher to the main pumping station in Al Athaiba.
