Blockchain Club holds first meeting

MUSCAT: A month after announcing its official establishm­ent during the Blockchain Symposium in November, the Blockchain Club held its first meeting under the auspices of HH Sayyid Taimour bin Asaad al Said, Assistant Secretary General of The Research Council for Communicat­ions, Honorary President of the Blockchain Club at the Diplomatic Club on Monday.

The meeting was organised by the Foreign Ministry and the State General Reserve Fund (SGRF).

Dr Yousef bin Abdullah al Balushi, Director of Transfer of Science, Knowledge and Technology Office at the Foreign Ministry, in his speech dealt with open internatio­nal innovation and science and technology diplomacy — Blockchain is an example.

The meeting also included a detailed presentati­on on the outcomes and recommenda­tions of the Blockchain Symposium, in addition to a presentati­on on Blockchain Solutions and Services Company was presented by Dr Khalid al Tahan, CEO of the Company.

The meeting was attended by a number senior officials, members of the State Council, members of Majlis Ash’shura, academics, business leaders and those interested in the field of blockchain.

It’s worth mentioning that the establishm­ent of the Club in the wake of the Blockchain Symposium came to translate the country’s aspiration­s to develop, import and localise the blockchain technology in the Sultanate. — ONA
