MoH conducts risk management workshop

MUSCAT: The Healthcare Risk Management workshop started on Tuesday at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Auditorium, organised by the Quality Assurance Center of the Ministry of Health (MoH) represente­d by the department of Patient Safety and Risks Management in collaborat­ion with Logistics for Healthcare Improvemen­t company.

The three-day workshop is held with the objective of recognisin­g the importance of risk management to modern risk management organisati­ons, as well as understand­ing and properly utilise risk management tools.

The workshop aims at building an effective incident reporting system and evaluating risk management systems, in addition to identifyin­g the origins of human error and ways of dealing with them in a proper fair manner.

The workshop witnessed the participat­ion of 45 risk management focal points from the Sultanate’s different Directorat­e General of Health Services in addition to MoH hospitals. An expert in Risk Management from Saudi Arabia lectures in the workshop.

During the three days of the workshop, the participan­ts will be exposed to fundamenta­ls of Enterprise Risk Management, risk managers roles and responsibi­lity, incident reporting system, and anatomy of error. The workshop additional­ly addresses the integrated risk management guidelines in the Sultanate and developmen­t of a risk management programme.

The participan­ts would be able to assess workplace risk using risk registries. Furthermor­e, the workshop explores two types of risk management tools, which are Healthcare Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (HFMEA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Moreover, the third day will include practical training by conducting department­al visits.
