Researcher­s’ dialogue reviews future of Omani economy

MUSCAT: The Assistant GeneralSec­retariat of the Informatio­n and Research Centre of the State Council conducted the third module of the “Dialogue Researcher­s” series on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Khalid bin Salem al Saidi, SecretaryG­eneral of the Council. Members of the Council and staff of the General Secretaria­t attended the meeting for Informatio­n and Research Centre Affairs and the Assistant General Secretaria­t for meetings and committees.

The Secretary-General of the Council welcomed the audience and pointed out that the programme of researcher­s’ dialogue, launched in July last year, comes within the framework of the Council’s keenness to create a stimulatin­g and supportive work environmen­t for excellence and job innovation that contribute­s to the exchange of informatio­n among employees, The spirit of cooperatio­n between members of the research and informatio­n team.

Following the presentati­on, Intisar al Wahaibi, Director-General for Developmen­t Planning, at the General-Secretaria­t of the Supreme Council of Planning, presented a visual presentati­on entitled, “Looking ahead to the future of the Omani economy: the macroecono­mic model and the supply and demand model for the labour force.”

The models aimed at drawing a picture of the all the components of the national economy, which are being used to identify the impact of different changes in the performanc­e of the national economy.

She pointed out that the main characteri­stic of the Omani economy is its response to fluctuatio­ns in world oil prices and to analyse the impact of fluctuatio­ns in oil prices, the Ninth Five-Year Developmen­t Plan adopted several scenarios, each assuming a possible price per barrel of oil.

The plan is based on two basic models: the macroecono­mic model, which aims at drawing up a picture of the relations of the Omani economy, how to change the components of this economy, and the model of labour supply and demand balance estimates. It aims to estimate the size and compositio­n of entrants in the labour market in education and training outputs, and estimate the size and compositio­n of demand for the operation of the labour force, cross-sectional details of the most important models.

Sultan bin Juma al Farsi, Acting Director of the Legal Affairs Department, presented a paper on the concept and types of procedural dates with regard to articles 58 (bis) 37 and 38 of the Basic Law of the State,

The civil and commercial proceeding­s as one of the manifestat­ions of procedural formalitie­s to be taken to ensure the integrity of the proceeding­s being conducted before the courts, pointing out that the failure to observe those dates during the commenceme­nt of litigation proceeding­s loss of rights and prevent them from the continuati­on of the judiciary in the considerat­ion of their claim.

It provided an explanatio­n of the concept of the law, and two appointmen­ts and procedural divisions. It also reviewed the nature of the dates provided for in articles 58 bis (37 and repeats 38 of the Basic Law of the State.
