Awareness seminar focuses on renewable energy

SALALAH: A seminar was held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Cultural and Recreation­al Complex in Salalah and was organised by the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs as part of the Sultanate’s celebratio­n marking Omani Environmen­t Day, which falls on January 8th of each year.

The opening of the seminar was sponsored by Najeeb bin Ali al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs, who honoured the sponsors and participan­ts in the activities of the Omani Environmen­t Day.

The seminar programme included two working sessions, the first entitled “Environmen­t and Renewable Energy”, which dealt with the future prospects of renewable energies and environmen­tal pollution.

The second session entitled “The Natural Environmen­t” touched upon maritime pollution, its relation to vital resources, the importance of natural reserves and the problem of desertific­ation. The seminar aimed to highlight the role of government agencies in preserving the environmen­t and human beings and finding optimal solutions to address the various environmen­tal problems and activate them in order to preserve the environmen­t and human beings.

The celebratio­n of the Omani Environmen­t Day continues until the end of January, as part of the keenness of the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs to raise awareness among all members of society and involve them in taking responsibi­lity, in highlighti­ng the importance of instilling the correct environmen­tal education in accordance with our Omani customs and traditions. — ONA
