- HARIDEV PUSHPARAJ MUSCAT, JAN 9

Reactions to Oman’s spectacular triumph in the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup have been coming in over the last few days and the latest is from Waleed al Saadi, assistant coach of Oman.

Waleed, who was with the team throughout their victorious journey, felt he was overjoyed with the team’s performance.

“My feelings are like others feelings of course, like any other Omani. As you know, I am the assistant coach so my feelings are going far and deep. So, I would like to congratulate His Majesty, the Minister of Sports Affairs, the whole Omani fans for the achievement. I also thank the fans for their big support to the national team in Kuwait and at Sultan Qaboos Stadium and considered them as part of the winning team,’’ he added.

Speaking about the big moments and the highlights of the tournament, Waleed said “the big moment was when the UAE team got a penalty in the last minutes of the match. But when they lost the penalty I was guaranteed that the national team will be attain the victory at the 23rd Gulf Cup”.

Talking about the final, Waleed felt the game was a real cracker-jacker and went down to the wire but the Oman team showed their mettle.

“It was a very hard match and challenging but the national team proved that they are the best,’’ he added.

Putting the whole tournament in perspective, Waleed felt the Oman team was up for every challenge that came their way in every game.

“As we know, Oman played against UAE in the first match we lost the game. This was also another challenge for us. In every match we can’t expect who will be the winner or the loser. Everything will change with each game and the circumstances will also change. That is why Oman team played professionally in the last match to achieve the victory’’ he pointed out.
