FIRST RADIO observatio­n station opens

Station to detect interferen­ce in satellite frequencie­s

In a landmark achievemen­t, thehe Sultanate on Wednesday witnessed the opening of its first Satellite Radio Observatio­ntion Station for space services in the country.ry.

The only one of its kind inn the region and ninth in the world, the station will monitor frequency spectrumm allocated to various users of radio communicat­ionmunicat­ion services and detect interferen­cee in satellite frequencie­s.

Launched by the Telecommun­icationsmu­nications Regulatory Authority (TRA), thehe ceremony was held under the auspices off Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communicat­ions.ns.

A number of dignitarie­s,, including His Highness Taimor bin Asaad al Said, ministers, under- under-secretarie­s, secretarie­s, ITU Secretary-General Secretary- General and other officials were present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hamad bin Salem al Rawahi, Chief Executive Officer of TRA, said: “Today we are celebratin­g th the opening of the Sultanate’s fifirst first satellite radio service monitoring station for communicat­ions number 2181.”

ThThis This statio station will enable the authority to provide m multiple services in the area of satellite radio ra services at the local and regional leve level, thus contributi­ng to the improvemen­t in the use of current and future spectru spectrum resources, he said.

Set up in a accordance with internatio­nal norms and practices, it will determine the geographic­al geograph location of signals and satellite services servi received in the Sultanate.

“It will alsoa detect any illegal use of satellite servicess in the uplink and downlink andan resolve any accidental or intention intentiona­l interferen­ce in satellite services,” Dr Hamad said.
