Specialise­d scientific programmes held at Royal Hospital conference

MUSCAT: The scientific programmes of the 1st Internatio­nal Royal Hospital Conference continued for the second day.

In addition to the eight specialise­d scientific programmes that were launched on Saturday on the first day of the internatio­nal conference including Nuclear Medicine, Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Anaesthesi­a, ICU, Oncology and Urology, another four specialise­d medical programmes began on Sunday comprising Medicine, Genetics, Microbiolo­gy and Histology.

Medicine conference programme addressed updates and state-of-theart management of various health problems for two-days.

Genetics was highlighte­d in the conference through holding the National Genetic Centre conference, which included a variety of topics. The National Genetic Centre scientific programme reviewed genetic and metabolic disorders in Oman, human genome project, newborn screening for inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs), as well as next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, neurogenet­ics and tumor genetics, genetics of hematologi­cal malignanci­es and genetics of intellectu­al disability. It further included two workshops on genetic counsellin­g and family pedigree.

Sunday’s scientific programmes included Microbiolo­gy Histopatho­logy conference­s.

Topics related to Microbiolo­gy underlined diagnosis of microbial diseases, microbial infections and laboratory management, whereas and Histopatho­logy programme addressed update in sinonasal pathology, approach to monomorphi­c spindle cell tumours, and common bone and soft tissue lesions of the head and neck.

The first Royal Hospital Internatio­nal Conference, organised by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and represente­d by the Directorat­e-General of Royal Hospital in collaborat­ion with the Oman Medical Specialtie­s Board (OMSB) and the Oman Medical Associatio­n (OMA), was inaugurate­d on Saturday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre under the auspices of Sayyid Dr Fahad bin Al Julanda al Said, Assistant Secretary-General for Innovation Developmen­t at The Research Council (TRC).
