Muneer, Safana champions in OTA monthly tennis tourney

MUSCAT: Bank Muscat in line with its ‘Let’s Do More’ vision and commitment to partnership in promoting Oman as a sporting nation, has announced exclusive sponsorship of Sayyid Abbas Golf tournament — the oldest and most prestigious golf championships in Oman. The 2016 championship will be held on December 16 and 17 at Ghala Golf Club.

The Sayyid Abbas Trophy, currently the most prestigious tournament in the country, is an annual winter event in honour of Ghala Golf Club’s former president, late HH Sayyid Abbas bin Faisal al Said, first initiated in 1979.

The two-day tournament is the longest running championship in Oman and has historically witnessed strong interest from members of the golfing community to compete at the highest levels of one of the most challenging golf courses in Oman.

Thanking Bank Muscat for the support to the tournament, Sachin Bawa, Director of Ghala Golf Club, said: “We at Ghala Golf Club are absolutely delighted that Bank Muscat is supporting the tournament as exclusive sponsors and we believe that the success of such tournaments and the recognition which the players receive from participation will serve as a source of encouragement to others to participate in this sport and expand their skills.”

The game of golf has in recent years grown in popularity in the Sultanate.

The Ghala Golf Club and the Sayyid Abbas Golf Tournament have been instrumental in promoting golf in Oman.
