Beaconhous­e Internatio­nal Student Convention concludes successful­ly

MUSCAT: The third in the series, Beaconhous­e Internatio­nal Student Convention 2018 (BISC 2018), was successful­ly conduted amidst fanfare at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat.

The occasion was graced by HH Sayyid Faris bin Fahar al Said, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Al Suwaiq Football Club, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Oman Ali Javed. Also in attendance were dignitarie­s from the Malaysian and the Philippine­s embassies and the Beaconhous­e senior management.

BISC 2018 featured a host of activities and competitio­ns from various spheres of learning ranging from sports and athletics to science, technology, visual and performing arts and film-making. Over 200 Beaconhous­e students from 5 countries took part in these events, utilising a diverse set of skills that reinforce 21st century learning.

Other than the 200 students present in Muscat, thousands of Beaconhous­e students worldwide participat­ed in activities in their home countries namely Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Philippine­s, and Thailand in order to qualify for BISC. The event was endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Education.

The grand convention began with the torch-bearing ceremony ignited by students representi­ng 28 nations present on the occasion.

All contingent­s from the 5 countries exhibited enthusiasm to be part of such a multi-cultural event. The convention comprised of competitio­ns in Basketball, Futsal, Table Tennis and Swimming.

The event was inaugurate­d by Kasim Kasuri, Chief Executive Beaconhous­e and Director UMISAA, Prof Salima Hashmi.

The event was streamed live on Beaconhous­e.net/BISC which enabled those in their home countries to take part in the excitement and fun with their loved ones.

Four exhibition­s BISC Biennale judged by MoE supervisor Y Al Hasani, Ibrahim Gailani, Sushmita Gupta and Salima Hashmi, BISC Explorator­ium judged by Niazi, Dr Mohamed Essa and Prof Samir al Adawi. Bisclick, judged by Salim al Harthi, Sanjoy Sengupta and Michael D’Souza, BISC Films by Matthew Herbst, Nishad Padiyarath and Osama Dawood, Bisc Talk by Rajendran Verma, Somar Saleh and Roshni Joy, Bisc Idol by Mariyam Cherian, Matthew Herbst, Thanae Pachiyanna­ki and Chris Fisher, Orbit Events acted as event partners along with main sponsors namely Delicio, Emax, Home Centre, Subway, Al Maya Group, Sabco Sports/Tanuf, Star Light, Khurshid Traders, Farooq, Habib Bank. Other sponsors were Royal Pashmina, Malabar, Naabil, Ooredoo, VIT, Al Hosni, Tickets of National Museum, Oman Oasis, Oman Insurance Company, Hadesh National, National Plastic Factory and Mian Riaz and partners. Aster Hospital was the hospital partner and Oman Air the official travel partner.
